Policy Statement

Neighbourly Lab is dedicated to encouraging an inclusive environment across the organisation. Celebrating and promoting diversity as well as eliminating discrimination is at the core of our work. We aim to ensure that these values run in our organisational practice and workplace culture by ensuring that all employees and job applicants are given equal opportunity and that our organisation is representative of all sections of society.

Scope

This policy applies to all current and potential team members on permanent, temporary, paid and voluntary contractual agreements. It covers discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and/or belief, sex or sexual orientation as set out in the Equality Act (2010).

Commitment

In the implementation of this policy, Neighbourly Lab will:

  • ensure that people are treated solely on the basis of their abilities and potential, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment or trans identity, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, trade union membership or non-membership, socio-economic background, or any other inappropriate distinction.

  • promote diversity and equality for team members and value the contributions made by individuals and groups of people from diverse cultural, ethnic, socio-economic and distinctive backgrounds.

  • promote and sustain an inclusive and supportive work environment which affirms the equal and fair treatment of individuals in fulfilling their potential and does not afford unfair privilege to any individual or group.

  • challenge inequality and less favourable treatment and wherever practicable.

  • ensure individuals experience a level playing field for achieving opportunities.

  • promote greater participation of under-represented groups by encouraging positive action to address inequality.

  • promote an environment free of harassment and bullying on any grounds in relation to all team members and partners.

Implementation and Review

This Policy is implemented by the Board of Directors and reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that it reflects best practice and current legislation.

Complaints and procedures related to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Neighbourly Lab expects all members of its network to treat others equitably, with dignity and respect. Any members of our team who believe they have been discriminated against, harassed or bullied have the right to make a complaint free from victimisation or fear of retaliation.

When making a complaint, normally the matter should be raised with the immediate supervisor, or another member of management able to take sufficient action on the matter.

Making a complaint does not prejudice an individual's right to make use of other procedures. We aim to support and protect anyone who makes a complaint, or who acts as a witness, under these procedures from victimisation or retaliation.

Related Policies

All Neighbourly Lab policies and procedures will be reviewed to ensure that they comply with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy. The following directly relevant policies and procedures support Neighbourly Lab’ implementation process:
